What is the relationship between women and jewelry?

What is the relationship between women and jewelry?

Women are the Muse of jewelry; Jewelry has also witnessed every important stage of women's growth: personal achievement, emotional eternity, and the brilliance of life.
For jewelry brands, no matter at what stage of brand development, the exploration of the relationship between women and jewelry has never stopped.

In 1967, at the peak of the European women's liberation movement, Pino Rabolini, a family of goldsmiths, founded the jewelry brand Pomellato Pomellando in Milan, and was deeply influenced by the outstanding women who pursued freedom and independent spirit.

"We are a jewelry brand that truly represents the new woman of the 20th and 21st centuries," Sabina Belli, CEO of Italian fine jewelry brand Pomellato, told the magazine in an exclusive interview.

* The term "New Woman" first appeared in a column by Irish writer Sarah Grand to refer to an independent woman seeking radical change.

Through this conversation with Sabina Belli, we will explore: What do women expect from jewelry in today's context? How will jewelry carry women's expectations?
Sabina Belli joined Kering in 2015 as CEO of Pomellato Pomellato.

Belli began his career at the global communications group WPP. From 1983 to 1991, she managed product-oriented accounts at Ogilvy & Mather and Young Rubicon.

Who do women reward when they buy jewelry?

Today, "self-reward" has become an almost spontaneous response for contemporary women.

If you look back to medieval Europe and even earlier, you will find that women, regardless of their social status and economic background, always dressed themselves up with elaborate jewelry.

However, for a long time in recent history, women were usually passive recipients of gifts of jewelry, and jewelry as a gift was often locked in a safe, used to store value, or only worn on major ceremonial occasions. Women's active choice and real needs for jewelry were once ignored.

The 1960s marked a turning point. With the rise of women's liberation movement in Europe, women have made great breakthroughs in dress and spiritual liberation, and their expression of beauty is gradually not rigid in old customs. Especially at that time, the concept of "Pret-a-Porter" began to rise, and designers created a series of ready-to-wear clothes for women that combined style and quality and could be worn everyday.

The young Pino Rabolini sensed that jewelry, like clothing, could be part of a woman's everyday life. As the heir of a family of craftsmen, he began to think about how to combine the advantages of the family's craftsmanship and break the limitations of traditional jewelry design, so he founded Pomellato Pomellato in Milan, a city marked by innovation.

Born at a turning point in the era, Pomellato has undoubtedly explored a new frontier in the jewelry industry, and has also advanced the discussion of the relationship between women and jewelry: jewelry is not limited to special occasions, it is also a way for women to express themselves in daily life, and is the embodiment of female power.

"The new women are more independent and able to stand on their own feet...... "While keeping women on an equal footing, it's also important to tell these women that they can follow their dreams as much as they want, and when they do, they can celebrate with jewelry and clothing." Sabina Belli told Flamboyant Chronicles.

Milanese art magnifies the emotional expression of jewelry for women.
In the 1960s, Milan, as a melting pot of avant-garde art and thought, emerged a large number of artists, writers and painters who broke the shackles of tradition. Bar Jamaica, Milan, which Rabolini often visited, was a gathering place for these artists and also the birthplace of his inspiration.

In the brand 50th anniversary book Pomellato treasure, Orlando Since 1967, through the lens "1967", discusses the Pomellato treasure, Orlando and artistic roots. There is no doubt that the cultural, fashion and artistic revolutions of that time had a profound impact on the creation of Pino Rabolini and the aesthetic that shaped Pomellato's brand. In his work,
Pomellato's world of color echoes the popular pop art creation and kaleidoscopic printing at the time.

It can be said that art and color have been deeply rooted in the genes of Pomellato, a high-end jewelry brand from Milan, Italy, from the very beginning.

Up to now, the influence of art on Pomellato Pomellato is still continuing, and the brand goes deep into the field of art, connecting with art and humanities from different backgrounds.

On April 19, Pomellato held the "Milan" Art World · Chengdu Art Forum "in Chengdu, and the brand joined hands with Milanese artist Alberto Maria Colombo to create a new visual art work" NUDO Series: From Milan to Chengdu, "Ingenuity to the Senses Tour" premiered in China.

If the color of jewelry awakens the deep perception of women, then art continues to amplify the charm of color, which is more concretely reflected in the artwork of the collaboration with Alberto Maria Colombo. This work combines photography, painting and AI intelligent technology to present the color art and aesthetics of the Nudo series, which puts the beauty of women in an illusion like blooming flowers, reflecting the rich emotions awakened by colorful gems.

Alberto Maria Colombo, born in Milan and a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York, is one of the artists to apply artificial intelligence technology to fashion.

Pomerando also spoke with Alberto Maria Colombo and Chinese artist Yang Mian to interpret the brand's gemstone color, craftsmanship and art from different perspectives.
"I think in the future we will offer more opportunities for Italian artists to collaborate with local Chinese artists, so that we can find a common language," Sabina Belli told the magazine.
Pomellato's iconic Nudo collection, first launched in 2001, features large bare stones, complemented by the brand's patented "bare set" and 57-sided irregular cutting process. The Nudo collection comes in different shades and sizes, and women can combine and fold them in countless ways.

This first association between the brand and the category is derived from the brand's long-term exploration in the field of colored gems, and has become a major advantage for the brand to establish an emotional connection with female consumers in the Chinese market.
In the Casa Pomellato Milan workshop, Pomellato has set up a special room for the colored gems collected each year. Stefano Cortecci, the master of the brand and director of jewelry purchasing, who manages the room, told malalan.eu that his daily work is to travel around the world in search of these "surprises," and he stressed that, Such a "jewelry hunt" program is unique to Pomellato

Psychological research has shown that women are generally better at discriminating colors, and when it comes to jewelry, colored gems naturally have an "instant appeal" for women.
Although colored gems are not native to China, through the Silk Road, colored gems from the West were introduced into China very early, forming a peak of use in the Han, Wei, Tang, Song, Ming and Qing dynasties. This means that the Chinese people have long been in love with colored gems, and even developed a unique color gem polishing, setting, and carving technology.

Outside of colored gemstones, it is often easy to overlook the precipitation of Pomellato Pomellato in the jeweler's art. "I hope Chinese consumers will learn more about Pomellato and the importance we place on quality and preciousness as a jewelry manufacturer." "Said Sabina Belli.

"We are a young brand with just over 60 years of history. This means we are able to bring a new dialogue to the jewellery market about craftsmanship, quality and at the same time we are more contemporary and new in terms of design, look and style." "Said Sabina Belli.
